Keurig B140 Brewing System

From the Keurig website:

“The B140 Brewing System brews a perfect cup of coffee, tea, hot cocoa or iced beverage in under one minute at the touch of a button. Now everyone in your office can brew what they love. This brewer has an Auto Off feature so when set it will turn off after two hours of non-use, the choice of three cup sizes and offers a removable drip tray to accommodate travel mugs. The B140 brewer is only available through a Keurig Authorized Distributor.”

Let me just start off by saying that I love, love, love my Keurig coffeemaker. Over the past ten years, I have owned 10+ coffeemakers, three of them single pod/cup and of all of those, I have stuck with my Keurig coffeemaker the longest. In fact, not only have I not bought another brand of coffeemaker since I bought my Keurig, but I own two of them.

Single pod/cup coffeemakers have a lot of advantages for people who don’t drink an entire pot of coffee. I originally bought mine for the small law firm I worked at where I was the only person who drank coffee. It didn’t make sense to make an entire pot of coffee when I was the only one drinking it, only to throw most of it away. Also, loose coffee can get messy, especially when you are working with a tiny kitchenette – the Keurig pods allowed me to choose from a side variety of coffee, both regular and flavored without any mess. It also worked out well for the tea-drinkers in the office – Keurig makes a variety of k-cups, including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, chai latte and cafe mocha.

When I was laid off from my job, I brought my Keurig coffeemakers home.  The B140 features a drainable internal hot water tank. The tank drains into the removable 48 oz reservoir on the side of the machine for ease of use and transportation.

My whole family loves the Keurig. My mother-in-law, who cut out coffee earlier this year, loves the tea k-cups. She also uses the Keurig to make hot water to brew loose tea. My sisters love being able to pick out a unique flavor or brand when they come to visit, and even when the whole family is over, I prefer being able to make everyone a cup of exactly what they like rather than brewing a pot in our Mr. Coffee. And the process is incredibly simple – it’s so easy that even my 83-year-old grandmother can do it. Just put lift the handle, pop in the k-cup of your choice, and hit the flashing button. My Keurig allows you to select from three different cup sizes – 6 oz, 8 oz, and 10 oz. I like the 10 oz size, while my father-in-law prefers to brew two 6 oz cups for a stronger brew. Even better – when he forgets to turn off the machine, the automatic shut-off feature will shut itself off after a while.

K-cups can seem expensive at first glance, but even with the recent increases to the price of coffee, my cost per cup actually comes to around 60¢. That’s still far better than the $2.00-$4.00 I was dropping every day at Starbucks and doesn’t even count the price of gas or the time it took to drive there. And I can choose from my favorite brands – I’m a huge fan of the Wolfgang Puck coffees, choose from coffee or tea, and have a cup ready to go in the morning in less than two minutes. I can even brew the coffee right over ice on hot summer days, or remove the bottom tray and brew it right into a travel cup for when I’m on the go. And what, you might ask, do I do if they don’t make my favorite kind of coffee in k-cups? I also own the Perfect Pod EZ Cup – I can put any kind of ground coffee into it, pop it in my Keurig and enjoy a cup of my favorite coffee. It makes the Keurig that much more convenient and cost-effective.

And the coffee tastes great – no more burnt coffee flavor that always seemed to plague me no matter where I went,  even Starbucks. In fact, I now prefer my home brewed coffee to anything I can buy anywhere. Nothing else tastes as good to me as that freshly brewed cup of coffee – my Keurig has spoiled me for everything else. It quite literally makes the best cup of coffee I have ever had.
